  1. Explain who you (or it/they) are

  3. Explain how you (or it/they) can help

The Why…

This activity is for anyone who:

  • needs to pitch themselves, a product or service
  • needs to give a pitch or introduce themselves at a networking event
  • needs to speak in front of people as part of their business
  • is pitching to stakeholders to raise money for charity

In other words, pitching is a useful skill that is used in a lot of contexts in the business and not-for-profit worlds.

Where do I start?

The How

Specific guidelines on how to tackle this activity.

Your aim is to get the audience nodding their heads in agreement, wanting to know more, instead of being confused because as we all know, confused people don’t buy.

Follow the objectives as they’re outlined above, and really try to see the problem you’re solving from the consumer’s point of view – what problem are you really solving for them? What problems do they have that they didn’t even know someone/thing that can help exists for?

Variations:

  1. Person – yourself or someone else
  2. A business – your own or someone else’s
  3. A product or service

Tips and traps

TRAPS:

  • Spending too much time talking about yourself, and not about how you can help solve their problems

TIPS:

  • Focus on the consumer – what do they want to hear? What would make them sigh with relief?
