Galactic Activity 31

To develop and deliver a TED™ style presentation using mixed media. TED Talks events are run across the world and the videos are shared across the world wide web. To deliver a similar presentation requires a combination of activities learnt throughout Launchpad and Orbit.

Activity 31 – Deliver a TED™ Talk Style Presentation

Duration: 10 – 15 mins

Aim

In this activity you are aiming to:

Deliver a presentation using a mix of technology (presentation slides, video, sound etc), performance art, demonstration of a skill etc

Objectives

To do this, you will need to keep the following objectives in mind:

  1. Deliver a captivating presentation
  2. Incorporate short video, slides, sound, lighting, performance to support your presentation
  3. Demonstrate preparedness by ensuring that all technology/demonstration/performance works seamlessly

TIPS:

  • Remember: YOU are the presenter – your slides, audio, video are not the presentation.
  • Begin with a captivating and relevant topic that resonates universally.
  • Develop a clear and concise central idea, challenging norms or posing intriguing questions.
  • Organize your content into a well-structured narrative, employing relatable anecdotes, compelling examples, and data-driven insights to support your points.
  • Utilise visuals to enhance, not overpower, your message.
  • Practice is crucial; refine your delivery, incorporating varied tones and gestures to sustain audience interest.
  • Foster a personal connection by sharing relatable stories.
  • Culminate with a thought-provoking conclusion that leaves a lasting impact, inspiring listeners to contemplate and act upon the ideas presented.

TRAPS:

  • Steer clear of excessive jargon that alienates listeners; instead, opt for accessible language.
  • Avoid overloading slides with text, which can distract from your message.
  • Steer clear of a monotone delivery; infuse passion and enthusiasm into your speech.
