Galactic Activity 17
Deliver a challenging presentation in a demanding context.
Activity 17 – Challenging Presentation
Duration: 3 – 6 mins
Applicable Streams: Personal challenge, Leadership, Learning & Development, Workplace skills, Education, Technical, Inspiration/Motivation,
Aim
In this activity you are aiming to:
Deliver a presentation that is challenging on some level (content, context, emotion and/or intellect).
Objectives
To do this, you will need to keep the following objectives in mind:
- Choose a challenging context (Eulogy, Wedding Speech, Executive Meeting etc)
- Deliver a presentation appropriate to the context.

The Why…
Often in life we are asked to do presentations or speeches in challenging contexts (funerals, weddings, or high level workplace meetings) and sometimes at the last minute so we don’t have the advantage of time to prepare.
Where do I start?
Decide on what is going to be most challenging for you – ask for guidance from the Program Director if you need help to come up with ideas, or think ahead to the next 5 years and the situations you may be called on to deliver a presentation for. Is there something coming up (are any of your children likely to get married? Is there a funeral likely to happen where you’ll be called on to give a speech? Can you take a colleague’s presentation at random and improvise?)
The How
Specific guidelines on how to tackle this activity.
The way you choose to challenge yourself here is up to you. Decide on what will be the most challenging for you:
- The information you need to get across is very complex and you have a very short time to present it (6 main points in 3 minutes, or a 25 page financial report in 3 minutes)
- The audience is many levels above who you’re usually comfortable presenting to (board or executive level)
- You’re given very little time to get your head around a presentation that is not your content but you have to present it.
- The context is challenging (a eulogy, a best man’s speech, a graduation speech to your old highschool).
If you’re at a loss as to what to choose, speak to your Program Director.
Variations (or ideas for what type of challenging presentation you can choose):
- Eulogy.
- Your own eulogy.
- Best man or maid of honour speech.
- ‘What advice would you give your 14 year old self?’ (to a group of 14 year olds)
